This formula takes a two-pronged approach. On one side, strong heat-clearing and detoxifying herbs work on the inflammatory and immune-driven root of psoriatic flares. On the other, blood-nourishing and wind-dispersing herbs address the underlying deficiency that allows these conditions to persist and recur. The formula also includes several powerful substances that work on the principle of using potent action to overcome potent pathology: a classical TCM strategy for deeply entrenched conditions that milder formulas cannot reach. • Da Qing Ye (Isatis Leaf), Ban Lan Gen (Isatis Root), and Bai Hua She She Cao (Hedyotis): A trio of potent heat-clearing and detoxifying herbs that address the toxic heat driving psoriatic proliferation and skin lesions
• Jin Yin Hua (Honeysuckle Flower): Clears toxic heat from the exterior, specifically indicated for dermatological presentations including sores, lesions, ulcerations, and inflammatory skin eruptions
• Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Bark) and Chi Shao (Red Peony Root): Cool the blood and clear heat from the blood level, preventing further spreading of lesions and reducing redness and inflammation
• Quan Xie (Scorpion) and Feng Fang (Wasp Nest): Used together in the classical tradition of using potent substances to overcome potent pathology. This pair relieves toxicity, disperses wind, and reduces pain. Clinically applied to a range of inflammatory skin disorders including toxic sores, swellings, and stubborn lesions
• Zhi He Shou Wu (Prepared Polygoni Root): Tonifies blood and prevents wind from stirring due to blood deficiency, addressing one of the key underlying patterns that perpetuates chronic skin conditions. Note: this formula uses the prepared form, which has a significantly different safety and therapeutic profile from the unprepared root
• Gan Cao (Licorice Root): Harmonizes the formula, reduces the intensity of stronger herbs, moderates the cold properties of heat-clearing ingredients, and protects the stomach

How to Use

Take 3 to 4 capsules three times daily on an empty stomach with warm water. In acute flares, dosage may be increased to 8 to 10 capsules three times daily for up to one week, or until symptoms subside, then reduced to a maintenance dose of 2 to 4 capsules daily. Because psoriasis is a chronic and stubborn condition, treatment is typically evaluated in three-month intervals.

Contains Zhi He Shou Wu, processed with black soybeans: use caution if you have a soy allergy. Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. Take with food if you have a sensitive stomach.
