Capsules Herbal ENT
A Classical Chinese Herbal Formula for Ear, Nose & Throat Infections with Heat & Toxin Patterns
The ears, nose, and throat are the body's most direct points of contact with the outside world, and when the body's defenses are taxed, they are often the first places infection takes hold. Sinus congestion, ear infections, tonsillitis, strep throat, severe sore throat, swollen glands, mouth ulcers, and fever are all expressions of what Chinese medicine calls wind-heat and toxic invasion to the head and upper jiao. These are not subtle conditions: they are acute, often intensely uncomfortable, and demand a formula strong enough to meet them directly. Herbal ENT is exactly that. A potent, multi-herb classical formula that clears heat from the head, eliminates toxins, disperses wind-heat accumulation, and provides broad-spectrum antiviral and antibacterial support, all while protecting the yin and preventing the infection from driving deeper into the body.
How It Works
This formula takes a coordinated approach to ENT infections. Chief heat-clearing herbs attack the microbial and inflammatory root directly. Wind-heat dispersing herbs open the surface and prevent the pathogen from consolidating. Throat-soothing and expectorant herbs address the most immediate discomforts, including swallowing pain and phlegm. A guiding herb directs the entire formula upward to the head and throat where it is needed most. And yin-protecting herbs ensure that the aggressive heat-clearing action does not deplete the body's fluids in the process.
Key Herbs & What They Do
- Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root) and Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome): The chief herbs of this formula, powerfully clearing heat in the head and upper jiao and eliminating toxins. Both have well-documented antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory activity across a wide range of ENT pathogens
- Ban Lan Gen (Isatis Root) and Xuan Shen (Scrophularia Root): Clear heat and eliminate toxins from the throat and head, with particular effectiveness against viral infections including infectious mononucleosis and strep
- Ma Bo (Puffball Fungus): Especially effective for severe sore throat with difficulty swallowing, clearing heat and toxicity directly from the throat tissue
- Niu Bang Zi (Burdock Seed), Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit), and Bo He (Peppermint): Disperse accumulated wind-heat from the head and surface, crucial herbs for sore throat relief and early-stage infection resolution
- Jie Geng (Platycodon Root): Clears Lung heat, soothes sore throat, opens the chest, and has an expectorant effect that brings sputum upward and prevents the infection from spreading deeper into the respiratory tract
- Zhe Bei Mu (Fritillaria Bulb): Works synergistically with Jie Geng and Gan Cao to soothe the throat, dissolve phlegm, and enhance the formula's overall throat-clearing effect
- Chen Pi (Aged Tangerine Peel): Descends Lung qi, relieves cough, and eliminates phlegm, supporting the upper respiratory tract's natural clearing function
- Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root): Acts as a guiding herb, directing the formula upward to the head and throat where infection is concentrated, while also dispersing wind-heat from the surface
- Xuan Shen (Scrophularia Root): Beyond its heat-clearing action, protects the yin from being depleted by the formula's heat-clearing and damp-drying herbs
- Gan Cao (Licorice Root): Soothes the throat, relieves spasm, harmonizes the formula, and moderates the intensity of the stronger clearing herbs
Supports
- Ear infections, including suppurative otitis media
- Sinus infection, sinusitis, and rhinitis
- Throat infections: tonsillitis, pharyngitis, strep throat, and severe sore throat
- Reduction of swollen glands, fever, and head and facial inflammation
- Mouth ulcers, bad breath, and oral cavity sores
- Broad-spectrum antiviral and antibacterial activity against ENT pathogens
Best For
Acute ear, nose, and throat infections with clear heat signs: fever, severe sore throat, redness and swelling of the face or head, swollen glands, and purulent or painful discharge. Also indicated for infectious mononucleosis, erysipelas, and oral ulcerations. This is a stronger formula than Lonicera Complex and is most appropriate for more severe wind-heat presentations.
How to Use
Take 3 to 4 capsules three times daily on an empty stomach with warm water. Dosage may be increased to 6 to 8 capsules three times daily in more acute cases. Take with meals if you have a sensitive stomach. If symptoms do not improve within seven days, consult your healthcare provider.
Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing. Use with caution if you have loose stools, diarrhea, or Spleen qi deficiency: take with meals and consider reducing dosage. Use with caution in cases of yang or qi deficiency. Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms include stiff neck, vomiting, or mental confusion, as these may indicate encephalitis or meningitis.
